In 1983 Dean graduated from Chemeketa Community College with an Associate degree in Science of Fire Protection and Suppression. While attending Chemeketa he was a resident firefighter for the Turner Fire Protection District.

In August of 1986, Dean began working for Philomath Fire and Rescue and eventually became the Training Officer and Fire Marshal. Dean later increased his certifications to include EMT I, and Fire Prevention/Investigation Officer I. During that time he also began volunteering for Monroe R.F.P.D. Dean now lives lives just north of Junction City and Dean has volunteered for Junction City Rural Fire Protection District off and on for the last 8 years. Dean has worked closely with Junction City Fire, as a volunteer, on fire prevention activities for the Junction City School District. In 2004, with 18 years of service at Philomath Fire and Rescue and through 3 different Chief’s administration, Dean resigned to become Mr. Mom.
After five years of being Mr. Mom, Dean has been hired at Lane Rural Fire / Rescue as of April 20th 2009, as the Fire Code Enforcement Officer.  Dean is very honored  to be part of the Lane Rural Fire / Rescue team!

Dean started his firefighting career his junior year in high school volunteering for the Harrisburg Fire Department. As a volunteer he received his EMT B when EMT’s were referred to as EMT 1’s.  After Dean made captain, he started a fire prevention program for the Harrisburg School District. Dean volunteered with Harrisburg for  a total of 10 years.
